Haltia - Metsähallitus

Haltia – The Finnish Nature Centre (https://www.haltia.com/en/) brings all of Finland’s nature under one roof with stunning exhibitions in the first public building in Finland built entirely of massive wood elements.

Haltia’s Nature School was stablished in 2013. Since then, it has focused on teaching different skills: skills for outdoor life (hiking), skills for carrying out minor nature studies (science observations, research methods, identification of species) and skills for sustainable life.

Nature school programs are based on new curriculum of Finland’s comprehensive school. Programs are carried out mainly outdoors all year-round. Pedagogy used in nature school is experiential, learning-by-doing.

Elina Pilke (Environmental education manager) and Anna Haukka (Nature educator) participate in the NANOL project.
