The Development of a Regional Master Programme in Pig Production and Food Security in Caribbean Countries Project has three phases. The ﬁrst one is the consortium organisation and training of the staﬀ in order to develop the Master Programme. The second phase includes the preparation of the Master, deﬁning the content and disseminating to attract students. Finally, the third phase is the implementation of the Master as two pilot courses in the Dominican Republic and in Cuba.
The project activities are divided in Work Packages (WP) that require specific documentation:
WP1 - Project management and quality control: a dedicated management and quality WP is necessary to ensure the Project development as well as its quality. Activities: Coordination meetings; General and specific management; Quality control reports.
WP2 - Development of Master programme in Swine production and food security: This WP is necessary to develop a Master Programme on pig production and food security that covers all the deficiencies in this subject in the ACP countries. Activities: Appointment of the academic team responsible for the programming of the Master; SWOT Analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats); Concrete proposals of actions for improvement and specific themes and countries; Implementation of the Master: pilot experiences; Continuing education courses; Creating an Administrative Unit to support and encourage the university-business cooperation.
WP3 - Capacity building for ACP Master tutors (academic staff) and teachers: This WP is necessary to ensure the development of a good quality Master. Activities: Capacity building for ACP Tutors (Academic Staff); Capacity building for ACP teachers.
WP4 - Capacity building for ACP management, administration, students and companies: It is important to ensure the development of a good quality Master and to give the knowledge to develop new Master Programmes in the future. Activities: Capacity building for academic and administrative management; Capacity building for representatives of the Ministries of Education; Capacity building for potential students of the Master; Capacity building for productive sector involved in the Master.
WP5 - Dissemination: This WP is necessary to ensure enough number of students to do the Master experiences and to ensure the sustainability of the Master Programme. Activities: Web portal; Design, editing and distribution of brochures; Presence in the Media; Publications in journals and communications at congresses; Events of the launch of the pilot experiences in the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
WP6 - Sustainability Plan: This WP is important to ensure the sustainability of the Project while it is being implemented and after its completion. Activities: Continuing education modules services; Inter-university association; Self-financing strategies.
