Professional experience:

1979 – present: P.P.Shirshov Institute of Oceanology RAS, permanent affiliation, Senior Scientist. Participation in numerous research projects in physical oceanography and remote sensing.

1989-1990: Ocean University of Qingdao, Qingdao, P.R.China, Visiting Scientist. Investigations of frontal systems in the China Seas with the satellite data.

1993-1994: Universities Space Research Association, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt MD, USA, Visiting Scientist. Research project on investigation of variability and frontogenesis in the large-scale oceanic frontal zones with the global AVHRR SST time series.

1998-1999: FRONTIER Research System for Global Change/Institute for Global Change Research, Tokyo, Japan, Research Scientist. Research project on satellite and ship data observations of decadal changes in the North Pacific oceanic frontal zones.

2003: Portuguese Fisheries and Sea Research Institute, Lisbon, Portugal, Visiting Scientist. Research project on study of the long-term variability in the Canary Upwelling System associated with the decadal climate changes in the North Atlantic based on satellite and ship-borne observations.

Topics of interest:

Physical oceanography; oceanographic applications of remote sensing; fronts; upwellings; variability of the large-scale oceanic frontal zones; long-term variability of SST in the Black and Aegean Seas associated with the large-scale atmospheric forcing; climate changes.

Bilateral Russian–Turkish project ‘Response of Black and Aegean Seas to climatic variations’, Co-leader.
