My PhD research covers the aspects of diversity, resilience and functions of the streambed microbial communities of Mediterranean rivers under global change. I am particularly interested in the responses of most studied (Bacteria) and less known micro-communities (Archaea, Fungi and Protozoa) to extreme drought events, with emphasis on the swings occurring from the surface to the bottom sediment layers between the frontier of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystem.
The contribution to the knowledge of this study aims to understanding and approaching a little more the diversity of the communities most involved in the carbon cycle and so on the functioning of temporal stream ecosystems, stressed by the global change, to improve their conservation.
