Spanish colonial policy in the North Morocco Protectorate favoured the deterioration of the ecosystems. The Technical Services warned about the environmental threats that hanged over the territory, but Spanish authorities developed a forest management system with a clearly economic character; a management based on the forestry. However, it is necessary to add that, in 1912, the environmental situation of the region reflected the consequences of the human action throughout the centuries, which it had suffered a considerable deforestation.
Key words: Spanish Protectorate in Morocco, colonial policy, environmental repercussions, forest management, forestry.
