Research lines:

 

  • HYDRODYNAMICS AND PHYSICAL PROCESSES IN NATURAL AQUATIC SYSTEMS
    We focus on the study of the hydrodynamics of seas, rivers, reservoirs and wetlands and parametric descriptions of the fluxes of mass and energy. We delve deep into the conceptual frameworks, the numerical models and the measurement procedures of physical processes, like turbulence, waves and currents. When necessary, we propose new methods to better describe and forecast the dynamics of natural aquatic systems and their interaction with the surroundings.
  • CLOUDS, ATMOSPHERIC RADIATION AND CLIMATE
    We study the climatology of cloudiness and sunshine, from local to continental scales, by comparing surface and satellite observations. Likewise, we work on characterizing the clouds and atmospheric aerosol. The effects of clouds and aerosol on the solar band (especially on ultraviolet radiation) and on longwave radiation are studied with techniques based on both measurements and modeling.
  • WATER QUALITY AND PARTICLE TRANSPORT
    We study flow and sediment transport in lakes, reservoirs and wetlands. We parameterize the effects of vegetation and meadows on transport. We develop techniques to improve water quality.
  • CLIMATE CHANGE: EVIDENCE AND PHYSICAL PROCESSES
    We focus on better documenting and analyzing the evidence of climate change in order to determine the key processes behind it. We study the evolution of the different components of the climatic system, the interaction between them, and the underlying physical processes.
  • WASTEWATER REUSED
    We study wastewater reuse by analyzing suspended particles. We focus on the performance of conventional wastewater treatments and propose alternative, innovative methods for wastewater reuse with a smaller environmental impact.
